Lucifer

also: Lucifer, the spirit of denial, Satan

The spirit of negation and doubt in Az ember tragédiája — not a simple villain but a philosophical antagonist who shows Adam the full sweep of human history. Cast out by the Lord in scene 1, he joins Adam and Eve after the Fall and accompanies Adam through all fifteen scenes as guide, mocker, and tempter. By the drama's end, even Lucifer is acknowledged as a necessary ring in the universe that drives progress through contradiction.
