office
Követ / Deputy (Hungarian Diet)
deputy
also: követ, képviselő, county delegate
In the pre-1848 Hungarian Diet, each county sent two 'követek' (deputies/delegates) to represent it in Pozsony; election as a követ was both a political honour and a livelihood, making it the object of the power struggle at the heart of Csak tréfa.
Reading notes
- Only a Joke §1 deputy
In the Hungarian Diet (parliament) of the Reform Era, a 'követ' or deputy was a county-elected representative; the word also meant 'ambassador,' giving Lorán's election a dignity his enemies wish to strip.
