Miltiades

also: Miltiadész

Miltiades (c. 550–489 BC), Athenian general who commanded Greek forces at the Battle of Marathon (490 BC). In scene 5 Adam incarnates as Miltiades — a hero condemned by the ungrateful demos, illustrating how idealism is defeated by political reality.
