Ancient city in the Jordan Valley, one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world; famous in the Hebrew Bible for Joshua's miraculous capture of it. The Rose of Jericho (poem) takes its title from the plant Anastatica hierochuntica associated with the region.
