Joseph (son of Jacob)

Joseph

also: József, Yosef

Joseph, son of Jacob and Rachel (Genesis 37–50), who rose to become Vizier of Egypt and saved both Egypt and his family from famine; in Mózes he is invoked twice as a precedent for a Jew reaching the highest Egyptian office while remaining faithful to God — a precedent Mózes first emulates and then decisively breaks with.
