A distinguished Roman general of Syrian origin (c. 130–after 193 CE) who married Lucilla, daughter of Marcus Aurelius, making him brother-in-law to Commodus. He refused to join the conspiracy against Commodus and lived to old age. In the drama he represents the honorable soldier of the old school.
