Louis of Taranto (1320–1362), cousin of Johanna I whom she married in 1347 after Andrew's murder; in the drama he is Johanna's former lover whose passion and ambition drive the central conspiracy. His ultimate betrayal of Johanna after the murder captures Madách's view of sexual passion as politically destructive.
