Joshua (Hungarian: Józsué), Moses's military commander and designated successor; in the drama he is first seen as a passionate youth in Mária's household, grows into an impetuous but loyal general, and is finally presented to the people as leader in Act Five — the only one of his generation to enter Canaan.
