Botond

Botond was a legendary Hungarian warrior who, according to medieval chronicle tradition (Anonymus, Simon of Kéza), smashed through the Bronze Gate of Constantinople with his battle-axe during a Magyar raid c. 959 AD; his oversized axe became a comic touchstone in 19th-century Hungarian satire.
