The Royal Treasurer (kincstartó or thesaurarius), a senior officer of the medieval Hungarian court responsible for managing royal revenues, minting, and taxation. In the early 16th-century setting of Madách's II. Lajos, the treasurer's role was politically significant as royal finances deteriorated before the catastrophe of Mohács (1526).
