Hungarian noble litigation

noble lawsuits

also: pörpatvar, perlekedés, nemesi pörök

The notoriously complex and interminable legal culture of the Hungarian nobility (pörpatvar — 'lawsuit-strife'), in which noble families conducted multi-generational property and inheritance disputes through the county and palatinal courts. This litigious tradition became a defining social trait satirized by Hungarian writers from Kisfaludy to Mikszáth.
